Adult Acne – Part Three

Did you know that women are more likely to suffer from acne and persistent breakouts than men? You might have thought it was the other way around but that’s just not the case.

A study from the University of Alabama in the United States found that for every age group following the teenage years, the reported incidence of acne was significantly higher among women than men.

More specifically the study revealed that;

During their 20s, 50.9 percent of women and 42.5 percent of men reported experiencing acne.
During their 30s, 35.2 percent of women and 20.1 percent of men reported experiencing acne.
During their 40s, 26.3 percent of women and 12 percent of men reported experiencing acne.
During their 50s or older, 15.3 percent of women and 7.3 percent of men reported experiencing acne.

Not only can we women take comfort in the fact that so many women suffer from adult acne (over half in our twenties!), men can rest easy knowing they aren’t as likely to be bitten by the acne bug.

So, why is acne more common in women? Well, it’s all down to hormones, more about controlling them in our next installment!
