Smoke Out
There are so many reasons to stop smoking, but if you do manage to break the habit then you’ll see the results in your skin quickly.
Smoking not only dehydrates the skin, making it dry, flaky and wrinkly, it also deprives the skin of oxygen. Giving up cigarettes will let your skin heal and you’ll soon see your complexion become smoother and radiant.
Furthermore, nicotene can add years to how you look. When you one puff of cigarette smoke, over a trillion free radicals are pumped into into lungs, which then trigger an inflammatory response that circulates throughout the body.
Did you know that ‘smoker’s face’ is an actual medical term? It was added to the medical dictionary in 1985 and describes the following characteristics;
- Lines or wrinkles on the face, particularly radiating at right angles from the upper and lower lips or corners of the eyes, deep lines on the cheeks or numerous shallow lines on the cheeks and lower jaw.
- A subtle gauntness of the features, with prominence of the underlying bony contours.
- A grey skin palour.
Smoking also depletes collagen and makes the skin thin, so it sags and looks listless and fragile. Go on, stub it out!
