Sun Safe

In the ’80s it was thought that sun-beds offered a safe alternative to sun bathing. We now know that is not in fact the case and sun-beds are a high-risk beauty habit.

Tanning beds use UVA light to trigger the production of melanin, the pigment that bestows that dark bronzed look on the skin. The problem is the amount of UVA streaming through skin from tanning lamps is much higher than you get outdoors. These rays are responsible for premature aging.

Deep and stubborn wrinkles aren’t the only cause for concern Skin cancer can take up to 20 years to develop and there are now early cases of skin cancer appearing on those who have frequently used sun beds.

There are also short term complaints. One study found that almost half the subjects who tanned indoors developed Polymorphic Light Eruption; an itchy, red, bumpy rash

There are so many high quality fake tans on the market which are easy to apply and look natural – there’s really no need to expose ourselves to these risks. Change your habits today and look after yourself in the long run.
