Waiting Game

When I was a lazy teenager I would often go a few days without washing my hair. Admittedly, my hair sometimes ended looking pretty bad, but I also had incredibly soft locks and I’m convinced it was down to the wonderful conditioning from the natural oils my scalp produced.

These days, I’m a lot more efficient with my hair washing and every other day give my head a good clean, but I may not need to be so vigilant.

Whilst haircare companies would like us to shampoo and condition everyday and buy in bulk, the reality is that this probably isn’t necessary. Skipping the shampoo and leaving longer between washes may actually be healthier for your hair, as those conditioning won’t be stripped away as frequently; giving them time to do their work.

It might not be suitable for everyone though – if you work somewhere where you are likely to get grimy or you suffer from very greasy hair you’ll want to wash your hair more often. Thicker hair is more likely to benefit from waiting longer to wash your hair as it tends to be coarser than fine hair.
