Across the pond, a pageant queen is doing something very brave and incredibly worthwhile. Tara Wheeler, aka Miss Virginia, is trying to raise $500,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds for childrens’ cancer research.

Concerned by how little girls were teased about losing their hair due to chemotherapy treatments, Tara hopes that visiting children sporting a shaved head will provide some support and solidarity. If she reaches her goal by April 11, she’ll shave off her lovely locks.

Twenty-five percent of the money raised will go to the Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Virginia Scholarship Fund, but the rest goes to St. Baldrick’s. So far she has only raised 3% of her fundraising goal, so why not give her a helping hand and donate now?
