Definition – Tourmaline

Tourmaline is commonly a chemical combination of silicate, boron, and aluminum, although it can include other elements like iron, magnesium, and lithium. It is a precious crystal and is commonly found in hair appliances. Ground down into a fine powder it is added to hair tools such as mixed  into a ceramic coated flat iron, applied in a thin coat on top of a brush or ground up to coat the inside of a hair dryer.

Tourmaline plates produce around six times more negative ions than standard ceramic plates. This means that your hair stays straighter for longer and also has a silkier, shinier look. Tourmaline products are typically smoother than the ceramic versions as they create less friction. As a result there is less damage from styling giving you smoother results.
