Quick Definition – Temporary Colour

We’ve already covered the definition for semi-permanent hair dye, but what about temporary colour? And no, they aren’t the same thing!

While semi-permanent colors wash out after several shampoos, temporary hair colours provide just that — a short term, temporary effect. This no-commitment type of color comes in the form of shampoos, gels, rinses, sprays, foams, and even mascara-like applicators. The “hair mascara” was very popular in the early nineties; I remember it well as I spent a lot of time brushing streaks of red into my blonde locks.

The larger colour molecules of temporary hair dye cannot penetrate the outer cuticle layer. Therefore, they work by being absorbed into the hair shaft and are simply and easily washed away after one shampoo.

Temporary colour can be perfect for special occasions like Halloween or themed parties, or any time when you might want to try out something different in the vibrant variety. It can also enhance your existing tones and help you get through the rough times in between root touch ups in the salon. Added bonus? Your underlying hair remains untouched and that means undamaged.
