Get to the Bottom of it
Having a big bottom is good for your health according to new research.
Studies show that storing fat on the glutes and thighs, rather than the belly, cuts levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol and raises levels of the ‘good’ cholesterol that protect against hardening of the arteries. It is also said to cut the risk of diabetes.
Oxford University researchers gathered together various studies on the health benefits of lower body, also known as ‘gluteofemoral’, fat then examined why it may be more healthy than stomach fat.
Theories include it acting as a ‘buffer’, soaking up fats which could have dangerous effects elsewhere in the body. It may also make higher levels of hormones known to affect appetite and weight.
