You would have thought that scissors were the most dangerous things that hairdressers came across in their work, possibly even the chemicals in the colourants, but I’m betting that you wouldn’t have thought the hair itself could be a danger. However, recently a  stylist’s septum collapsed from an infection caused by years of constant exposure to hair.

It seems that hair fragments can lodge themselves inside the nasal cavity, causing irritation at best and infection at worst. It can be incredibly painful and can lead to nasal cuts which can’t heal and may need surgery.

Wearing a mask can help the problem, but hair salons prefer not to take this approach believing that it ruins the aesthetic and experience.
