Whilst I love red hair and it is incredibly popular these day with many celebrities going for the chop, red tresses have long been seen as unusual. This can sometimes lead to playground bullying for young children, but did you know that red head had an even tougher time in the middle ages?

Apparently, alchemists believed that in order to turn copper into gold they needed the blood of a young redheaded man – scary stuff! Furthermore,  the Malleus Maleficarum stated “Those whose hair is red, of a certain peculiar shade, are unmistakably vampires,” , though they could also be witches!
