Beauty Myth Busted – Tanning for Acne

It’s a common misconception that tanning keeps your skin clear, but that’s not quite true. It looks as though it may be working as tanning dries out your skin, so pimples seem to dry up. However, after days or even just hours your skin will try to moisturise itself by creating more oil and sebum. Because the dried out skin is flaky and damaged, you’re more likely to end up with clogged pores and end up with worse spots than usual. What’s more, tanning increases pigmentation and makes scars more obvious and longer lasting. Our advice? Wear sun tan lotion and stay out the sun.
