The Theraderm Skin Health System contains the Theraderm Cleansing Wash (6oz), Fruit Acid Exfoliant (2oz), OPC Reparative Gel (oligomeric proanthocyanadin - an effective antioxidant known to protect the skin's collagen and elastin) (1oz) and a Facial Moisturiser (2oz). The products themselves were created by plastic surgeons to produce an effective skincare system. There are two versions, gentle (sensitive skin) and Enriched. Fruit Acid (lactic acid) and glycolic acid both have similar characteristics that cause exfoliation, lactic acid is a three-carbon chain, whereas glycolic acid is a two-carbon chain. Due to the smallness of the glycolic acid molecule, it reacts more rapidly, is usually harsher and more irritating to the skin; lactic acid based exfoliants may be better, therefore, for more sensitive skin. Lanolin, an animal oil derived from sheep's wool, absorbs very readily into human skin, and does not clog pores. Lanolin is unlike other moisturisers, which may contain petroleum jelly, mineral oil, or vegetable oils, in that it is said to penetrate deep into the skin; other moisturisers may coat the surface of the skin, causing comedones (whiteheads or blackheads).
